RESONANT BODIES FESTIVAL

Showcasing "today's most talented singers" (Feast of Music), Resonant Bodies Festival is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to hear virtuosic vocalists perform cutting-edge repertoire. Festival locations currently include New York City, Chicago, Sydney, and Banff, with plans to build a truly global network of vocalists and audiences. To date, RBF has presented the work of 181 composers, and 235 works for voice.

The Festival, founded in 2013, has been called "as artist-focused as a festival gets" by the New York Times. Each set is curated by the artist: we asked for their newest exploration, their deeply-cherished gems, their singular viewpoint, and/or their riskiest endeavors. In addition to providing a platform for their work and vision, the Festival is also an opportunity for vocalists meet/hear other vocalists, to commune, to experience each others’ work. In this way, RBF serves as a metaphorical petri dish of inspiration and new collaborations.

We believe that offering a meaningful experience for performers results in passionate and elevated performances, much to the benefit of audience members, composers, and the entire art-music genre. The results have been called “consistently impressive and entertaining” (Seen and Heard International), “raucous” and “unpredictable” (Chicago Tribune), “exciting, thought-provoking and diversely programmed” (RealTime Arts, Australia), and “equal measures intelligent, playful, ambitious and moving” (New York Times). RBF is now the go-to source for those writing, performing, and appreciating contemporary vocal music.

MRMR
RBF curates a vast online database of resources for free public use, collectively called MRMR (Music Resource and Media Room). These resources include Resonant Bodies Podcast, which features in-depth interviews with each festival artist; RBF's VimeoYouTube, and SoundCloud pages, which house professional video and audio documentation of each festival; and the Contemporary Vocal Music Database (CVMD), a crowdsourced catalogue of 20th and 21st century vocal works, including links to view scores and listen to each piece. The CVMD, connected to hundreds of composers and singers around the world, assists vocalists in finding new repertoire, and composers in making their vocal music more visible and available. These resources deepen the experience for our audience and offer an entry point for curious minds into the ever-expanding body of work that we love.
